Under the Model Penal Code/American Law Institute (MPC/ALI) test, a defendant is not criminally responsible if, as result of mental disease or defect, he lacks substantial capacity to appreciate criminality or wrongfulness of conduct, or lacks substantial capacity to conform conduct to requirements of law.
