Training Description
Of the principles of effective correctional rehabilitation, responsivity has likely received the least attention with respect to both research and practice. This webinar reviews the extant research and its implications for building responsivity among these most challenging clients. It distinguishes between responsivity factors related to program structure and those related to getting the treatment context right for actual change. It focuses on crucial but often-overlooked areas such as theories related to self-perception (including having the client make the case for change) and self-determination (for example, understanding the roles of intrinsic and extrinsic motivations), and outlines specific steps that clinicians can take towards building more effective responsiveness from their clientele.
The workshop explores specific areas of motivational interviewing and its processes, as well as feedback-informed treatment and the development of the therapeutic alliance. This includes achieving agreement on the nature of the therapeutic relationship as well as the goals and tasks of treatment. It offers a brief structure for examining stuck cases.
