Training Description
The prediction of recidivism risk and the identification of criminogenic needs are key to evidence-based practice in correctional, legal, and behavioral health settings. The Self-Appraisal Questionnaire (SAQ) is a unique actuarial risk assessment instrument designed assess recidivism risk using self-report among male offenders. Containing both static and dynamic risk factors, the SAQ takes only 20 minutes to administer and has been found in peer-reviewed research to produce accurate predictions of both violent and non-violent recidivism.
Presented by the instrument’s developer, this workshop will train you in the use of the SAQ while earning 4 hours of valuable Continuing Education Credit. The development of the SAQ will be discussed, scale-by-scale instructions will be given on how to reliably score the measure and interpret its findings, and a review of the peer-reviewed research on the SAQ will be provided. Trainer Biography
Wagdy Loza, CPsych, PhD is a Licensed Psychologist as well as the developer of the SAQ. Chair of the Canadian Psychological Association section on Extremism/Terrorism, Dr. Loza served the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) for almost 30 years of experience including as Chief Psychologist at Kingston Penitentiary. Dr. Loza has over 40 publications and has offered workshops across the globe, including in Australia, Canada, Egypt, Kuwait, Amsterdam, Portugal, South Africa, and the United States.
