Training Description
The prediction of recidivism risk and the identification of criminogenic needs are key to evidence-based practice in correctional, legal, and behavioral health settings. The newest version of the most commonly-used and widely-researched scheme for risk/needs assessment in adult offenders is the Level of Service/Case Management Inventory (LS/CMI). Following the Risk-Need-Responsivity Model of offender rehabilitation, the LS/CMI measures risk factors empirically-associated with recidivism as well as offender strengths, supervision considerations, and factors. The LS/CMI has been found to produce accurate and reliable assessments of recidivism risk across sexes, ethnicities, and countries. Presented by one of only 18 Master Trainers in the world, this On Demand workshop will train you in the use of the LS/CMI while earning 9 hours of valuable Continuing Education Credit.
The development of the LS/CMI will be discussed, item-by-item instructions will be given on how to reliably score the measure and interpret its findings, a review of the peer-reviewed research on the LS/CMI will be provided, and guidance will be put forth on how to apply LS/CMI reporting conventions. Case studies will be employed to allow you to practice using the tool’s coding manual and to learn to avoid common administration errors. Trainer Biography
Ralph Fretz, PhD is a licensed psychologist and expert witness who is an official Master Trainer for the LSI-R, LS/CMI, YLS/CMI, and LS/RNR. Former award-winning Director of Assessment and Research at Community Education Centers, Dr. Fretz is a graduate of Columbia University and Seton Hall School of Professional Psychology. He has worked with a variety of populations including juvenile and adult offenders, sexual offenders, and psychiatric inpatients. Dr. Fretz’s work has been published in a number of leading scholarly journals, and he frequently speaks at national and international conferences.
