Training Description
Important international differences exist between how sex offender treatment is conducted. The present training discusses approaches to sex offender treatment in the United Kingdom in the three primary contexts in which this is delivered: prisons, probation, and psychiatric services. The risk assessment tools used and treatment programmes available in these contexts are described, and important differences between approaches taken in correctional versus mental health systems are highlighted. Finally, costs and benefits of contemporary treatment modalities are discussed, and future directions are put forth.
Trainer Biography
Ruth Tully, DForenPsy is a British Psychological Society Chartered and Health and Care Professions Council Registered Consultant Forensic Psychologist as well as Assistant Professor of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Nottingham. Dr Tully has worked extensively in the prisons, hospitals, and communities of England and Wales across all security levels. She is the author of numerous publications on sex offender assessment and management.
