Training Description
The Juvenile Risk Assessment Tool (J-RAT) Instrument suite is composed of six clinical risk assessment instruments for sexually abusive behavior in youth, including the J-RAT, Cognitively Impaired Juvenile Risk Assessment Tool (CI/J-RAT), Latency Age Sexual Adjustment and Assessment Tool (LA-SAAT), Juvenile Risk Assessment Tool/Interim Assessment (J-RAT/IR), Cognitively Impaired Juvenile Risk Assessment Tool/Interim Assessment (CI/J-RAT/IR), and Latency Age Sexual Adjustment and Assessment Tool/Interim Assessment (LA-SAAT/IR). These risk assessment tools produce a comprehensive evaluation of the sexual abuse risk profile of youth clients that may be useful in guiding intervention and supervision efforts. Presented by the developer of the tools, this On Demand certified workshop will train you in the use of the J-RAT Instruments while earning 6 hours of valuable Continuing Education Credit.
The development of the J-RAT Instruments will be discussed, item-by-item instructions will be given on how to reliably score the measures and interpret their findings, a review of the peer-reviewed research on the J-RAT Instruments will be provided, and guidance will be put forth on how to apply J-RAT Instrument reporting conventions. Case studies will be employed to allow you to practice using the coding sheets and to learn to avoid common administration errors.
Trainer Biography
Phil Rich, EdD, LICSW, is the developer of the J-RAT Instruments and holds both a Doctorate in Applied Behavioral Organizational Studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst as well as a Master’s in Social Work from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Rich has practiced as a clinical social worker for over 30 years, including as program director of five treatment programs working extensively with troubled adolescents and adults in residential, inpatient, day treatment, and outpatient settings. He gives presentations and trainings both nationally and internationally, and is currently in private practice as a consultant, specializing in work with juvenile sexual offenders. He is the author of four books and numerous peer-reviewed articles.
